About
The Cornelius Cup originated in 2016, one year after our father, Cornelius (Colin) Coates, passed away on 8th May 2015 from bowel cancer.

In the 12 months following his passing, we dedicated our efforts to raising money for John Taylor Hospice and Cancer Research UK through longest golf days, charity runs, walks, and auctions. Yet, despite our success in honouring Dad’s memory this way, we wanted something more permanent to remember him by.
Before the Cornelius Cup, we had our own golf weekends. Dad would often join us – not because he was an exceptional golfer (like us, he wasn’t), but because he enjoyed the game and cherished spending time with “his boys”. It wasn’t really about who was the best golfer; it was about enjoying the game, sharing stories, and laughing together. Of course, there was always a bit of friendly competition and plenty of banter!
And so, the Cornelius Cup was born – a celebration of golf, friendship, and fun. It’s an opportunity for golfers of all skill levels to come together, play golf, share a drink, and most importantly, enjoy the company of friends, both old and new.
We warmly welcome you to the Cornelius Cup – an event filled with laughter, good spirits, and the joy of the game.
From “his boys” – Mark, Steven, Paul, & Colin.
